Le portrait des plantes

Jardin des Plantes de Rouen

Exposition - 2016

This work began with the greenhouse history of the Botanical Garden of Rouen while Akira Inumaru was observing the beautiful collection of fuchsias; having arrived from the Americas many centuries ago, the European climate and soil allowed these flowers to flourish and diversify.

Akira Inumaru scanned, photographed and drew the flowers, sometimes in a very large format. But if he tries to represent the light with his pencil, he also introduces

it directly in his work, using the sunlight as a tool in a process he calls “Solar distillation.”
